UPMC Fact: A pioneer in the field of solid-organ transplantation, doctors at UPMC have performed more than 17,000 organ transplants since 1981. In 2012, the cardiothoracic transplantation program performed it’s 3000th transplant, and became only the second program in the world to reach this milestone. Our program remains one of only a few in the country with donor heart recipients at or beyond 30 years post-transplant.
